Preserving the Legacy of 2000-2003

Township Government Introduction

Long Hill Township has a Township Committee form of government.  Five members of our Township Committee are elected for staggered three-year terms.  The Committee elects a Chairperson to serve as Mayor for one year.

Agendas  of the Township Committee are available in the Meetings and Events Section of this website.  You may sign up to receive a copies of the Agenda summary by email.

Minutes of the Township Committee are available on this website (since April, 2000), at the Library, and at Town Hall.

The Newsletters page has notices, press releases and bulletins which are important to the residents.  These newsletters are not Special Events, but are in-depth discussions of non-recurring matters of special interest to the residents of the Township.  These discussions may be the feature articles in the next paper issue of our mailed newsletter: "Window on Long Hill Township".

There are a number of Volunteer Boards, Committees and Commissions defined by state and local laws.  These Boards are listed on the Boards, Committees & Commissions webpage, and each Board is explained more fully on the page dedicated to its function in the appropriate major section of this website.  The Boards page has links to these other pages.

The township's Office of Emergency Management reports to the Mayor.  When activated, it is located at the Police Department.  OEM is described in the Other Public Safety section.

In 2002, Long Hill Township has an operating budget of $11,827,000, of which $6,610,000 (56%) is raised by local real estate taxes.  The remainder comes from Gross Receipts Taxes paid to your utility companies ($1,355,000), state aid and grants ($524,000), sewer fees ($860,000), fines paid to the Municipal Court (township retains $125,000), construction permit fees ($40,000), other permits and license fees ($145,000), interest ($155,000), and other miscellaneous sources.
