This page introduces the various volunteer Boards, Committees and Commissions
that help the township function effectively. Each Board's responsibility is summarized
below. Details of each Board's responsibilities, and its membership, are listed on
a page in the appropriate functional section of this website.

Local government depends on volunteers in order be responsive and productive.
We welcome people who are willing to donate their time by serving on committees or
boards that will make up our Township government. If you would like to get involved
in our local government, please let us know by filling out the
online questionnaire.

The Board of Health is responsible for
the administration and enforcement of all health ordinances of the Township
and for adopting rules, regulations, and ordinances designed to promote and
protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the residents.

The Community Center Board manages the
Community Center Building, and operates a wide range of programs for the residents
of the community.
|
|
The Environmental Commission is responsible for
programs to educate the residents and provide solutions to environmental issues.
|
The Great Swamp Watershed Management
Committee coordinates the watershed management activities
of the Ten Towns which are in the watershed of the Great Swamp.
Long Hill Township is represented by DR. Leonard Hamilton.

The Historic Preservation Advisory Committee is
assigned the responsibility for developing ordinances for historic preservation,
advising other government planning bodies about historic elements involved in
proposed projects, and updating the Township's historic sites survey with an eye toward
designating specific districts and sites as suitable for historic registration.

The Library Board of Trustees is
appointed by the Township Committee, and has corporate powers to
hold in trust and manage all property of the library, to purchase, hire,
make rules and generally do all things necessary and proper for the
establishment and maintenance of the library of the municipality.

The Morris County Community Development Program distributes federal
block grants to the municipalities in the Morris County, to fund a variety of housing and municipal development
projects. The Revenue Sharing Committee brings local input to the allocation process, and makes
recommendations to the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Long Hill is represented by Maryann Nergaard.

The Open Space Advisory Committee is
responsible to develop a comprehensive open space program for consideration by the
Planning Board in preparing the Township Master Plan; to evaluate the importance
of township lands for recreational use, stream corridor protection, and preservation
of aesthetic and historic value; identify specific sites for acquisition, and recommend
available grants; implement the Town's Open Space programs; comment to the Planning
Board and the Board of Adjustment as appropriate.

The Planning Board is responsible for preparing the Township
Master Plan. It also makes recommendations about the Official Map and the Zoning Ordinances,
reviews subdivisions and conditional use applications, and xxxxxxs the capital improvements program.
It participates in the preparation and review of programs and plans required by state and federal law.

The Recreation Advisory Committee is responsible
to recommend a recreation program, including special events, to the Township Committee;
to coordinate the activity of independent recreation groups within the Township;
and to advise the Planning Board regarding recreational facilities.

The Shade Tree Commission is responsible
to advise the Township Committee on all matters pertaining to the planting
and care of trees and shrubs on all public roads and parks;
to recommend programs to prevent the spread of diseases or pests from trees on
private property; and to encourage arborculture.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment is the keeper of the conscience of the
community in zoning matters. it is empowered to grant exceptions to the zoning ordinances in cases
where the literal and rigid interpretation and enforcement of the zoning laws would work hardship or injustice.
