Stirling VFC emblem on side of Engine 24
The Stirling Volunteer Fire Company Number 1 was established in 1913.  Its motto, which appears on all the trucks, is  "Defenders of the South End" . The volunteers also expend about 900 hours in training and maintenance each year.

The 25 active members of the Fire Company accomplish their fire/rescue tasks using:

  • Flashing icon that says: NewA 2008 Pierce Quantum pumper delivered in August, 2008. - Engine 24 is currently the primary response engine.
  • A 2001 Smeal/Spartan pumper delivered in February, 2002.
  • A 1998 Smeal/Spartan rescue truck - Rescue 26 is the first truck to respond to car accidents, carbon monoxide alarms, trapped persons, etc., where rescue rather than fire is more likely to be the controlling issue.  Follow the link to also read about our role in regional Confined Space Rescue.
  • A 2002 Ford Explorer, used as a command vehicle.  It is also equipped with ??? for use in difficult terrain situations.
  • A 1938 Diamond "T" pumper, which is primarily used as a parade and nostalgia vehicle.

Firemen in turnout gear at the annual Bicycle Race

Since 1996, the Stirling VFC has sponsored the Bill Metzler Memorial Firefighters Bike Race during the  Freedom Tour  - the proceeds of which were donated to the St. Barnabas Burn Center

The company also sponsors a Junior Firefighter program for young adults aged 16-21.

If you have  small children  or  invalids  in your household, we strongly urge you to place the appropriate stickers on the window of their bedroom(s).  These stickers alert the fire fighters to immediately search those rooms for a child or invalid in the event of a fire.

We also have a reflectorized  bumper sticker  for automobiles which carry invalids.

To receive FREE stickers, please email your request to us.  Long Hill Township residents only, please.

The Stirling Volunteer Fire Company supports itself through an annual fund drive.  Please remember that the money you contribute is used to provide fire protection and rescue services to you and your family.  We can't think of a better investment!

And of course, we'd like you to consider joining if you'd like to help the "Defenders of the South End" protect the community in a hands-on way.  Email us, and an officer will contact you.
