Recreation Overview

The recreation opportunities in Long Hill Township are made available through the enthusiasm of many volunteer groups, and by the Township's Recreation Department.  This page is a directory of all the activities, regardless of the sponsor.

The entire town is excited about the NEW Riverside Recreation Park in Gillette.  Please visit the page which describes the project.  We've added photos showing the progress through mid-December.

Basketball Courts Available any time.   Reservation fee in effect.  Riverside Park

Central School
Bicycling A 2.3 mile pathway connecting the Millington and Stirling Railroad stations via a paved bikeway through the Hicks Tract.  Constructed in 2000.  Complete with markers.  Mouse here to view a map.
 Bocci  Courts are available year round.  League play June - August Thursday at 6:30 PM. Riverside Park, Gillette
Hiking The Hicks Tract has 59 acres of undeveloped land owned by the Township.  Hiking trails through marsh, open field and deciduous forest.  Park at the end of Largo Lane as shown on the bicycle Trail map. Hicks Tract, Millington.

A group of residents organized a project to create a hiking trail along the Passaic River.  The first 3.5 mile segment was laid out in December, 2000.  In April, 2001, they started to place trail markers.  The first portion of the trail will open during the summer of 2001.  Read more on the Passaic River Trail page. The town owns a number of undeveloped Open Space parcels, obtained from developers as part of their approval for subdivisions.  They are public property, and freely available for passive activities. Various.

Playgrounds
In early August 2001, we finished upgrading the Meyersville Playground. See pictures. Meyersville
There are similar playgrounds at Riverside Park, at each of the three public schools, and at Stirling Lake. Parents should supervise their children at all times, please.

Tennis Tennis Courts are available during the warmer months.  The nets are put up in  mid-April , at the first sign of continued warm weather.
