The Township Recreation Program is managed by the Recreation Director, who works with the help of the Recreation Advisory Committee of volunteers appointed by the Township Committee.

Girls on the Run
The Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Somerset Hills YMCA, are introducing Girls on the Run.  This is an experimental running program for girls in grades 3-5.  The program is designed to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.  Girls will train for the YMCA Flag Day 5K race.

You don't need to be especially athletic or involved in sports to enjoy this program.  Have fun and getting fit will come naturally.

Tuesday and Thurdsday starting March 11 for 12 weeks.  At Cedar Ridge School in Basking Ridge.  4:00 - 5:00 PM.

Field Hockey

Starting in the Fall of 2002, an instructional program for girls entering 6th - 8th grade.  Featuring a low level of competition and strong focus on skills development. First practice - late August; League games September 15 - October  20.  All games are Sundays at 1:00 or 2:00 PM at WHRHS. Practices TBA.

Field Hockey and Lacrosse summer camp for GIRLS entering grades 6 thru 9.  The camps focus on skills development and participation.  No prior experience is required.  July 7 - July 11 at Riverside Park. 
Each player must have her own stick, shin guards and mouth guard.  Contact Lisa Atkins 908-580-1659.

Roller Hockey 
The Recreation Department will conduct a Roller Hockey league for the Summer of 2003, in cooperation with Bernards Township and the Somerset Hills YMCA. 
Volunteer coaches needed.  Meeting May 15, 7:00 PM at Somerset Hills YMCA.

Lacrosse Programs
A traveling program for BOYS in grades 3 thru 8.  Competes against teams from other towns.  Each player must have his own stick and ball.
Starts March 1, 2003.  See the Traveling Lacrosse Program page for all the details.

Manners Matter
A two hour workshop will introduce students to the do's and dont's of everyday etiquette and dining etiquette.  The children will acquire the tools needed to properly handle today's real-life social situations.  The format of this class is fun and interactive with lots of role-playing, allowing the children to practice their new skills.  For boys and girls 7-12 years old.

Topics Covered: Speaking with Confidence, Party Manners, Conversational Skills, Dining Etiquette, Place Setting, Silverware Rules, Telephone Skills, Proper Greeting, Introductions, First Impressions, Handshake, Respectfulness, Body Language, Hosting & Serving Guests, Carpool Manners and Sleep-over Etiquette.
