On October 29, 2011, a very early winter storm dumped six inches of wet snow on Long Hill, before the leaves dropped from the trees. Parts of the town lost power for as much as six days, and Public Works spent two months cleaning the downed branches from the streets. The most valuable tool was the BobcatTM. This machine can be fitted with a plow, a forklift, or, as seen here, with jaws.

Long Hill and Berkeley Heights have an intermunicipal agreement to jointly own and operate a signal maintenance truck. This truck is not only used to relamp traffic signals, but is also used to hang banners and decorate the Meyersville Holiday Tree.

A Public Works Dept. plow waiting for a long, hot bath.
 At 5:00 PM on Sunday evening, we started to plow. The town had 17 plows on the road, as well as a few contract plows. Morris County had several of its plows working the main roads. 24 hours later, our crews took a dinner break, then went back to work.
 The Police Department switched from sedans to Jeeps, but traffic remained light and there were no incidents. First Aid Squad members slept at the Squad building, and a paramedic unit was stationed with the Squad in case of a more serious emergency. Fortunately, through Monday evening, there were no first aid calls.
