Community The township-wide Spring Cleanup Day will be held April 19, 2003.

Roads The township maintains 70 miles of paved roads.  There are an additional 10 miles of county roads, maintained by Morris County.
When it snows, we plow, until the streets are clean.  Please do not call us to complain that we put the snow back into your driveway.  Remind your plowing contractor not to push the snow into the streets.  We will plow again, until the streets are clean "Curb-to-curb.
An interesting fact:  In an average winter, we spread 700-1000 tons of salt.

A foot of snow drops about ONE MILLION TONS on Long Hill Township.  Follow the calculation.
  • 1 foot of snow = 1.2 inches of water
  • 1 cubic foot of water = 62.5 pounds of water
  • 1 square foot of snow, 1 foot deep = 0.1 cubic ft of water = 6.25 pounds
  • 1 acre = 43,560 square ft
  • 1 acre of snow, 1 foot deep = 4,356 cubic ft of water = 272,250 pounds = 136 tons
  • Long Hill Township = 7767 acres
  • 1 foot of snow on Long Hill Township = 1,057,000 tons

    Paving In the summer of 2003, the township tentatively plans the following paving:

    • Stirling -
    • Gillette - Meyersville -
    Wastewater Treatment The Treatment Plant is licsensed to process 900,000 gallons of wastewater per day.  The plant is operated as an F3 facility, under State and Federal clean water regulations.

    Recycling Yard The Recycling Yard is located behind the Public Works Building in Stirling.  See the Recycling page for details. 
    Building Maintenance DPW maintains Town Hall, Police Heaquarters and its own facilities, for a total of 14 buildings.
    Vehicles The DPW fleet consists of 7 dumptrucks, 3 mason trucks, 4 pickup trucks, a loader, a grader, a backhoe, and a very large mower.  All the trucks can be fitted with snowplows.
