| Truck 23 is the Emergency Services Unit
of the Long Hill Township Police Department. This Ford F-350 Super Duty
was acquired in the summer of 2002 to perform some police tasks that require more
capability than is possible with the patrol cars. The emergency services unit
vehicle is capable of responding to situations involving serious motor vehicle
collisions, hazardous material operations, special events, disasters,
and special weapons and tactics (SWAT) operations.

Long Hill emergency services - on the
Public Safety Introduction Page)

Since it is the largest vehicle in the fleet, it is equipped
with a pushbar, which is capable of moving disabled vehicles.
The four wheel drive and high suspension allow the vehicle to be used
in off-road operations as well as high water situations.

The rear of the truck contains a covered open bed with a slide-out shelf. This shelf extends about 5 feet beyond the rear bumper, and is useful as a work surface during investigations. The shelf is capable of supporting 1000 pounds, and can be used to evacuate injured victims from difficult terrain or flooded areas.

The vehicle compartments are designed to carry needed equipment
to the various emergencies. The equipment that is carried on the vehicle is
safely stored in locked compartments. Behind the cab is the gun locker.
When heavier armament is required, long guns from the police arsenal
are transported to the crime scene in Truck 23.
No weapons are stored in the truck when it is unattended.

This cabinet carries the tools needed for crime scene and motor vehicle investigations. Other cabinets carry hazmat gear, etc.

The vehicle design makes it easily recognizable as an emergency response vehicle.
The traditional black and white color scheme was used in the design, similar
to the patrol vehicles. Unlike the patrol vehicles, the emergency
response unit is equipped with an overhead directional arrow for use in
traffic control situations.
