Any police record deemed to be a public record must be requested in writing utilizing the Request For Access To Police Department Records form.  New Jersey Public Records Access Law N.J.S.A. 47 1A-1 et. seq. requires that the person who requests such a record must personally sign that they received the requested record.  However, you can start the request by printing and completing the form and submitting it by mail or fax (908-647-8587).

The Long Hill Township Police Department Records Department is open between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  (If you need assistance with your request, please call 908-647-1800 ext. 232 or use this email form.)  Your request will be processed as soon as possible.  However, the request may take up to seven business days to process provided the record is not in storage or archived.

Certain police records are exempt from public access.  The list is at the bottom of this webpage.  If you request a record deemed to be exempt from release, you will notified in writing of the denial of access to the record requested.  You have the right to appeal the decision that the document or documents that were denied are not public records.  You may take your appeal to the Public Records Council or to the New Jersey Superior Court as provided by N.J.S.A. 47:1A-6-7.

Discovery requests pursuant to Rule 3:13-3 for criminal records for an appearance in Municipal Court may be made in writing to the above address.

You may review the Public Access to Government Records Law in its entirety on the New Jersey state website.  For information about access to other township public records, read the Access to Public Records page in the Municipal Clerk's section of this website.
