If you wish to commend an employee, or if you feel that an employee has acted improperly, it is most effective to contact the employee's supervisor directly as soon after the event as possible.  If the employee's immediate supervisor is not available ask to speak with the on-duty supervisor.  A commendation, recommendation, or complaint can be initiated verbally or in writing.   More Information

"Your Complaint or Commendation"

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR COMPLAINT

All complaints or inquires about an employee's conduct are investigated.  Generally, the complaint is referred to the employee's immediate supervisor.  However, the Captain in charge of Internal Affairs will investigate more serious allegations of misconduct.  If there is an allegation of a crime, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office will be notified.

The investigation may require you to provide verbal and written statements, photographs or audio taped statements.  At the inclusion of the investigation and review by the Chief of Police, you will be notified of the outcome of your complaint.  Be aware that under the law, employees have due process rights during an internal affairs investigation.  Investigators must strictly adhere to the New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines for investigating complaints of employee misconduct.  Residents who wish to file a formal complaint about the performance of the Long Hill Police Department should obtain a Citizen Complaint Information Form.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR COMMENDATION

Commendation for any Long Hill Township Police Department employee will result in the employee being advised of your appreciation and is permanently recorded in the employee's personnel file.

Depending on the credible act, the employee may be considered for other department recognition.  At the minimum, the employee is made aware of your kindness and appreciation.
