| The Long Hill Township
Police Department will sponsor a Citizen Police Academy
beginning on Thursday, April 10, 2003 and running 11 weeks.
The academy will introduce students to police operations and
demonstrate the complex nature of policing.
The academy curriculum will be on a wide variety of law enforcement topics,
specifically the issues that create the most problems for the communit
The academy participants will have an opportunity to understand the
rationale police officers use to handle certain situations.
Students of the program will become acquainted with members of the
department and come in contact with police officers through
positive interaction in a learning environment.
The Police Department hopes that the Citizen Police Academy graduates
will have a better appreciation for the complex nature of policing
as an occupation, giving them a better understanding of the
police department.
- The program will be held on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 9:3 PM
for eleven weeks.
- Applications must be picked up at the Long Hill Township Police
Department, 264 Mercer Street, Stirling, NJ 07980,
and must be submitted by January 31, 2003.
- Requirements for the academy:
- All applicants must fill out a formal application.
- Long Hill Township residents 18 years of age or older.
- No Criminal History
- Have a valid driver’s license with no suspensions or arrests.
- Must be able to attend 90% of instruction not including graduation.

- Myths vs. Realities of Policing
- Patrol Functions
- Criminal Law
- Emergency Management
- Detective Bureau / Investigations
- Traffic Safety
- Domestic Violence
- Community Policing & Crime Prevention
- Communications Section / 9-1-1
