Health Services

The Board of Health is responsible for the administration and enforcement of all health ordinances of the Township and for adopting rules, regulations, and ordinances designed to promote and protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the residents.

In Long Hill Township, the Municipal Clerk is the Registrar of Vital Statistics.


Long Hill Township contracts its day-to-day Board of Health functions to the Madison Health District.  The Health Official is Ben Samara at 973-593-3083.  He generally is available in Long Hill on Monday, and may be contacted directly for these routine services.

A Rabies Clinic will be held November 3, 2000 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Public Works Garage in Stirling.
Public health nuisance control DEP investigation follow-up
Mammograpy Screening Certificates are available to residents of Long Hill who do NOT have Medicare or health insurance coverage for mammograms.  The certificate allows the holder to obtain a mammogram for $80.00, which is about one-half the regular charge.  The certificate can be used at any of three  designated mammography centers  in Morristown or Harding.  Call 973-593-3059 for more information and to obtain your certificate.


The Board of Health also contracts with the Somerset Visiting Nurses for a number of services.  They can be reached at 908-766-0180.  The services they provide to the Township include:
Health maintenance and monitoring for senior citizens Immunizations 
Flu and pneumonia shots will be available on October 2, 2002 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Stirling.  (Over 55 only at this session, please.)  A second session (no age restriction) will be held November 3, 2002 from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM at the Shrine of St. Joseph on Long Hill Road.  There are no known shortages or age restrictions in 2002, but be sure to check back in case this changes.

A discount prescription drug program is offered by Morris County to low-income residents with no other prescription drug insurance.  Details.
